Viral Hundreds of Villagers in Karawang Are Addicted to Tramadol, UM Surabaya Pharmacy Lecturer Explains the Dangers – Hundreds of residents of Mulyajaya Village, Kutawaluya District, Karawang Regency, West Java, from children, teenagers to the elderly, are addicted to the hard drugs Tramadol and Hexymer. This was conveyed by the Head of Mulyajaya Endang Village, after the two hard drug dealers R and W were arrested and revealed who had consumed them.

UM Surabaya Pharmacy Lecturer Annisa Kartika Sari responded to the large number of cases. Annisa explained that tramadol is an opioid analgesic drug which was initially introduced as a safe alternative to morphine and codeine. However, with increasing cases of abuse, the negative impacts and dangers of Tramadol addiction should be a concern for everyone.

“Tramadol is a prescription medication recommended for managing moderate to severe pain. “However, because it has a euphoric effect, this drug is often misused and can cause addiction,” said Annisa Friday (11/8/23).

According to him, the side effects of tramadol abuse are very diverse, ranging from nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, to respiratory depression which is potentially fatal. One of the long-term effects of tramadol abuse is damage to the nervous system.

Annisa emphasized that long-term use of tramadol can disrupt neurotransmitter function and affect the chemical balance of the brain. Not only that, tramadol addiction can also affect liver and kidney function. Because these two organs are responsible for metabolizing and excreting the drug from the body, consuming excessive amounts of tramadol over a long period of time can overload both, increasing the risk of damage to both organs.

Tramadol addiction not only affects the physical health, but also the mental health of the user. Depression, anxiety, and sleep disorders are often associated with tramadol abuse.

“Individuals who are addicted to this drug often feel depressed and have difficulty establishing healthy interpersonal relationships,” he added.

According to him, many individuals depend on tramadol also because of economic problems. The costs of purchasing drugs illegally as well as health care costs arising from health complications can burden users financially. Another social impact of tramadol addiction involves family and friend relationships. Many families are divided or stressed because one member is addicted, and this can lead to social isolation and difficulty in harmonious relationships.

“Public education and awareness are the main keys in preventing abuse. “Educational programs targeting schools, universities and the general public need to be improved so that people understand the risks and dangers of drug abuse such as Tramadol,” concluded Annisa.
